Breaking: BattleFin Acquires Exabel & Raises $4M
BattleFin, a market leader and pioneer in the alternative data discovery industry, today announced it has acquired Exabel, an alternative data analytics platform. Additionally, the company announced it raised $4M in additional funding led by AWC, a subsidiary of Awilhelmsen Group and Jefferies, in combination with a previous investment from the London Stock Exchange Group.
This One Is Personal
I’ve been an Advisor to Exabel over the past year and a long-time collaborator with BattleFin, serving on their Customer Advisory Board and frequently speaking at their events. I also previously ran Datavore, another code-free platform for data analysis, which was acquired by Above Data in 2020. The combination of extensive data catalog, advanced analysis tools, purpose-built workflows for investors, and a top data industry conference business, is not only exciting from a client standpoint, but also from a data vendor perspective, enabling faster time to market and incorporation into clients’ workflows to increase value-add and time to ROI.
The BattleFin team is led by Tim Harrington. Tim was previously CIO at Lion’s Path Capital, and a Portfolio Manager at JP Morgan Ventures and Point72’s Sigma Capital. The Exabel team is led by Andreas Aglen. Andreas joined the company in 2017 as COO after roles in management consulting in the U.S. and Norway at McKinsey & Company. Exabel Co-Founder Øyvind Grotmol serves as the company’s CTO. Prior to founding Exabel, Øyvind held senior engineering roles at Brain Corporation, Silicon Laboratories, and Energy Micro. He is a competitive programmer and winner of the silver medal at the Association for Computing Machinery ICPC World Finals.
A huge congratulations to both teams on getting to this point, coming together to form one of the most exciting company combinations, and for everything we have to look forward to in the months and years ahead.
