[INSERT] Of The Week
A new overview where I highlight an activity from each major section
Deal - BlueMatrix acquired RANOS, a New Zealand based research publishing platform. This is the second acquisition by BlueMatrix since receiving a strategic investment from leading software private equity firm Thoma Bravo in January 2024. The company acquired email intelligence and analytics provider Street Context in January 2025. BlueMatrix is a leading solution for research publishing, and was founded in 1999 by Patricia Horotan. RANOS was founded in 2020 by Daniel Kieser.
Funding Round - Enquire AI, a Washington D.C. based expert-based research platform raised $3M in a round from a group of former top research and Wall Street execs including: Barry Hurewitz (ex-UBS), Gavin Skinner (Aiera & ex-COO), Juan Luis Perez (ex-UBS), David Bluestein (ex-Credit Suisse), Betsy Cohen (Teneo Ventures), Faruk Eczacıbaşı (Turkish Informatics Foundation), Todd Benson (ex-Citi Private Equity), Marc Rodrigues (ex-Thomson Reuters), and Nevzat Aydın (Yemeksepeti). The company was founded in 2018 by Cenk Sidar and previously raised $11.4M across rounds with prior investors including MBO Partners and Uzabase.
People Move - Elizabeth Pritchard joined HarbourVest as Managing Director, Head of Data and Analytics. Elizabeth is a fixture on the financial data scene, having previously led market data at Goldman Sachs before going platform/vendor side at Crux. She was most recently Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Liberty Mutual Investments and serves on the Board of Eagle Alpha. Congrats Liz!
Job - String AI is hiring a Founding Engineer. This is an awesome opportunity to get into a great company early. String was founded as Durable Alpha in 2023 by Rohit Shenoy and Logan Harless. The company provides web data extraction capabilities. Having known Rohit since the beginning (we actually met on his last day at Bain), I’ve been fortunate to see the company’s tremendous growth - winning share from many of the large incumbents.

Legal, Regulatory, Risk & Compliance
I’ve partnered with my friends at Glacier Network to provide some legal, regulatory, risk & compliance commentary and alerts. Glacier was founded by Don D’Amico, who previously served as GC at Neudata and legal counsel at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP and Davidson Kempner Capital Management. Also on the team is Dede Potts Siguler, who was previously a data attorney at Point72 and lawyer at Renaissance Capital.
Below is commentary from Glacier about a key proposed rule withdrawal. Glacier customers get early alert notices, detections, and commentary via their platform.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission recently withdrew a number of proposed rules that would have dramatically increased disclosure requirements for investment funds, covering alt data (and many other vendor types), cybersecurity, and ESG. While superficially the withdrawals represent a clear break from Gensler’s SEC and the prior administration in the US, the truth is these rules had been in limbo for years and were fairly unpopular, given the industry pushback and commentary. There was a sense that they did not fit.
The vendor outsourcing rule, for example, would have imposed sweeping alt-data-style diligence and monitoring requirements on a potentially huge range of vendors. And funds would have been required to disclose the names of these vendors, to the glee of their competitors and, probably, to the confusion or even apathy of many investors. The rule addressed real risks but for many funds, those risks already get substantial attention and resources (and existing law requires both).
Now, the SEC could have restarted the process with these rule proposals and modified them. But it chose to clear the board - likely to take time to reassess priorities and new risks, such as the rise of AI. The emerging tech landscape will require it.
