  • Quora (knowledge sharing) raised $75M from Andreessen Horowitz.

  • Safe Software (enterprise data integration) received a growth investment from JMI Equity.

  • SynMax (maritime and energy intelligence) raised $13M in a round led by Bill Perkins.

  • Vortexa (energy and freight analytics) raised $34M in a Series C led by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital.

Something New

Initial Data Offering (IDO) was launched by Matt Ober, General Partner at Social Leverage. Matt has one of the most unique perspectives, having previously led data strategy at WorldQuant, as Chief Data Scientist at Third Point, and currently as an investor focused on innovative companies in the space.

IDO’s mission is to build a community of data buyers, data sellers, & data enthusiasts with a focus on curating high-quality, unique datasets for businesses, researchers, and organizations worldwide.

My friends at Delta Emerald Ventures are hosting CannaDataCon in Miami, February 1-2. CannaDataCon brings together leading entrepreneurs and engineers across the cannabis value chain to share best practices in cannabis technology and operations.

Day 1 is focused on driving top-of-funnel and revenue with technology. Day 2 is about leveraging data for improved margins.
